Test Number One - Preparation
Sheet
The Objectives for this Test are
- That you understand hardness
testing and how to use the data to make decisions regarding product
specification
- That you understand tensile
testing
- That you understand the various
mechanical processing techniques
The Expected Outcomes for you to Show you can meet these Objectives
are
- You need to be able to
describe the various test procedures (metrology. hardness, tensile) and
interpret the data from them appropriately.
- You need to be able to
combine information from tensile testing and mechanical processing.
- You need to be able to use
all the formulae presented in the notes, not only to get a correct
numerical answer, but to explain your reasoning.
- You need to be able to compare
(describe, explain similarities, explain differences) the various
mechanical processing techniques.
- You need to be able to solve
mathematical problems clearly and according to the standards of the
course.
- You need to be able to write
clearly and effectively. Being concise is key.
Some Tips for Studying for Tests
- Contact me so I can help you succeed.
- Write a topic list in outline
(2-3 levels) form.
- Rate how well you know the
subject matter, based on the expected outcomes and objectives
- A - I know it super
well (this includes, I got it right on the HW and could do it again)
- B- I know it OK, but
still need to study (this includes, I got it wrong on the HW but think I
could do it right in the future, or I got it right on the HW through
luck)
- C- I hope the
Professor forgets it (he won't) (This includes, I got it wrong on the HW
and have no idea how to do it correctly)
- Study the C's first, the B's
second, and the A's third.
- Prepare Review Sheets based
on all relevant course materials for each topic.
- Use the review sheets
at the end
- Try extra problems or
questions (even if you have to make them up, or ask me to make them up)
- Review the Homework Solutions
and Assess your Performance on the HW. An assessment includes strengths,
areas for improvement and insights. The assessment is a point from which
to move forward. The strengths should represent an honest review. The
areas for improvement, should include what you will do to improve,
insights are (AHA moments) something you suddenly learned.
- Use but do not rely solely on
the HW Solutions to study.
- Studying is Active not
Passive.
- Studying is Not Looking at
Subject Matter for the First Time.
- There are no relevant
cribs for this course.
